Frequently Asked Questions

How was I selected?

Each WACC member campus names up to two student winners annually. Your campus named you! They likely received your name as a nomination from faculty or staff on campus. All students are eligible and recipients are being recognized for their outstanding leadership, civic and community engagement.

What is the award for?

The Student Civic Leadership Awards recognize outstanding student leaders at Washington Campus Coalition member campuses for their work in civic engagement, community leadership and social entrepreneurship.

What do I need to do?

Students should:

  1. Complete our student survey to ensure we have their preferred name, correctly spelled, and a mailing address (no later than March 7, 2025).

  2. Register for the event (free) no later than March 14th, 2025 if you plan to attend the awards ceremony (part or all). What do I receive?

You will receive a letter from your institution president or chancellor as well as a certificate. Students who are unable to attend the awards ceremony will receive theirs in the mail. If you haven’t already, be sure to complete our recipient survey so we have your information!

What is the awards ceremony?

The awards ceremony recognizes and celebrates our outstanding Student Civic Leaders from across Washington and Idaho.

Will I have to speak?

Students do not speak at the awards ceremony, but will be able to engage in networking and conversation throughout the day! Photo opportunities will also be available.

What should I wear?

Business casual or professional attire is recommended if you have it. Presidents and chancellors typically dress formally for events like this. If you don’t have attire, reach out to your campus - many have career closets or other options for students!
