College Support Service Corps (CSSC)

The College Support Services Corps was a Serve WA AmeriCorps program through Washington Campus Compact that empowered students by providing the resources necessary to thrive in college and beyond.

The program leveraged campus/community partnerships, civic engagement, and student leadership to provide basic needs support and academic interventions as part of a holistic commitment to educational equity and academic success. Support activities were provided in the following areas:

Academic Support

Enhanced access to services and resources that contributed to improved educational outcomes for K-16 students.

Healthy Futures

Access to services and resources that contributed to improved food security, medical and mental health services, and basic needs support for K-16 students.

Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA)

The WACC AmeriCorps VISTA program, in partnership with AmeriCorps, addressed critical community needs through building the capacity of community-based organizations in the following priority areas:

Education
Enhanced access to services and resources that contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged K-16 children and youth. Emphasis was placed on STEM.

Economic Opportunity
Improved job readiness for economically disadvantaged children, youth, and adults, as well as veterans and military families.

Healthy Futures
Ensured equitable access to services and resources that contribute to improved food security, access to mental health services, or opioid addiction prevention/intervention/recovery for economically disadvantaged children, youth, and adults, as well as veterans and military families.

VISTA by the Numbers in 2021:

  • 192 Volunteers served 1,485 hours
  • $306,620.20 in Cash & in-kind resources leveraged.
  • 49 organizations increased their efficiency, efficacy, and/or program reach.
  • 9,809 youths received services in all focus areas.

College Access Corps (CAC)

The College Access Corps program improved college access of economically disadvantaged youth in kindergarten and grades 4-12 in Washington State and Northern Idaho.

Economic disadvantage is defined as 50% or more of the youth in a group being eligible for the federally – funded free/reduced lunch program. AmeriCorps members strived to promote educational equity and inclusion that supports the needs of students with various backgrounds.
